Wayland Select Board approves $79,000 in year-end line item transfers
WAYLAND -- June 4, 2018, Wayland Select Board approves $79,000 in year-end transfers and sets a private-roads appeals process. The board voted 4-0 Monday to move funds across five line items under the Municipal Modernization Act, including $30,000 for an IT consultant, $20,000 for legal services tied to cable franchise negotiations, money for an HR consultant after the department head's February retirement, about $4,000 for a building department contract worker, and replacement chairs for the Council on Aging and selectmen's meeting room. Town Administrator Nan Balmer said the net impact on free cash is closer to $45,000 because roughly $34,000 would have been spent from the building department salary line anyway. Member Cherry Karlson said she would not sign weekly warrants without a summary report, telling colleagues she "will not take that responsibility" otherwise. The board also swore in firefighter-paramedic Andrew Welch, proclaimed June 10 as Race Amity Day, and set 2019 annual town meeting sessions for April 29, April 30, May 2 and Sunday, May 5.
