Wayland selectmen meet remotely as town reports six COVID-19 cases

WAYLAND -- March 27, 2020, Wayland selectmen meet fully remotely as town confirms six COVID-19 cases. Town Administrator Louise Miller told the Board of Selectmen on Friday that Wayland has six confirmed cases plus one clinically diagnosed case treated as positive, with 25 contacts in quarantine review. Miller said town staff, working with library and school department 3D printers, has produced and Fire Department-tested an N95-style mask that "actually provides the protection," with three machines now turning out roughly 18 per day. The state has sent $5,400 toward Wayland's response. The board voted 5-0 to authorize Miller to sign an 11th amendment extending the River's Edge land disposition closing date, and 5-0 to approve the consent calendar while delegating signing authority on its contracts to the town administrator. Miller flagged a state reporting gap for food-establishment workers and an unattended, possibly COVID-related death the state told her was a "local" issue.
