Wayland Select Board postpones town election to June 9
WAYLAND -- March 24, 2020, Wayland Select Board postpones town election to June 9 under new state COVID-19 law. The board voted 5-0 Tuesday to move the local election from March 31, acting one day after Gov. Charlie Baker signed Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020. Chair Cherry Carlson said the date balanced public health caution against late-June graduations and summer vacations, with town meeting tentatively to follow the week of June 14. Town Administrator Louise told the board that staffing in town buildings has been cut to police, fire and health on full schedules, and that the town has produced two prototype N95-style masks on a 3D printer moved from the library. In a separate 5-0 vote, the board designated Carlson and Selectman Tom Fay as single signing authority for warrants. The board also weighed temporarily suspending the town's plastic-bag restriction after new CDC guidance discouraged reusable shopping bags.
