Wayland selectmen approve Oxbow Meadows field contract in 5-0 vote
WAYLAND -- October 30, 2017, Wayland selectmen unanimously authorize Oxbow Meadows field contract despite pending land court case. The Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 Monday to let the town administrator sign a construction contract with Netco Construction Project Managers Inc., conditioned on holding off groundbreaking until after a Nov. 20 land court hearing brought by abutters. Recreation officials said delay would cost two growing seasons and push first use to 2020. Opponent Tom Hoops urged the board "not to be softly bulldozed," arguing a required pedestrian study was never done; abutter Lena Russo said her 40B condominium development would absorb "hundreds of cars" through its shared entrance. A Tetra Tech letter delivered that day found no need for further environmental testing of the former Nike missile site. The board separately appointed Uday Verkut to the Wastewater Management District Commission and reviewed an FY19 budget guideline projecting roughly $1.9 million in committed cost increases plus a $600,000 envelope for new initiatives, about a 3.3 percent rise.
