Wayland Select Board to seek competing bids on town legal services

WAYLAND -- September 9, 2024, Wayland Select Board opens legal contract to competing firms and schedules Oct. 21 reuse forum. The board voted 5-0 Sept. 9 to appoint Dr. Edward P.T. Chang to the Wastewater Management District Commission through June 30, 2026, filling a vacancy that had reduced the three-member body to two. Vice-Chair Doug Levine and member Thomas J. Fay will work with Town Manager Michael McCall to solicit qualifications from outside firms before renewing the town's engagement with KP Law, which McCall noted is exempt from Chapter 30B procurement. On the tax-title parcel at 212 Cochituate Road, KP Law has drafted a spring warrant article authorizing conveyance for residential development; member William Whitney argued leasing rather than selling would be "by far the most advantageous for this town." McCall also announced a roughly $35,000 Community Compact grant application, jointly with the schools, to assess HR, payroll and facilities operations.
