Wayland Select Board submits 16 town meeting articles, advances $2 million building plan
WAYLAND -- January 8, 2018, Wayland Select Board teed up 16 town meeting articles, including a $2.01 million town building and Fire Station 2 package headed toward a March 27 debt-exclusion ballot. Four residents urged the board not to bundle roughly $40 million in pending capital requests into one question. "We don't want the easy-order package," Mike Lowry told the board; Gretchen Schueler warned that higher taxes mean "there will be many who absolutely cannot stay." The board voted 4-0 to ratify a 2017-2020 contract with IAFF Local 1978, unanimously approved a new all-alcoholic license for Mandy Phillips's Dudley Chateau LLC at 20 Crest Road after the prior license expired Dec. 31, and watched Police Chief Swanick swear in Christopher J. Custody, a 2012 hire and former U.S. Marine sergeant, as the department's newest sergeant.
