Wayland Select Board relocates Feb. 11 town meeting to middle school

WAYLAND -- January 11, 2016, Wayland relocates Feb. 11 Special Town Meeting after high school concert conflict surfaces. The Select Board voted unanimously Monday to move the meeting from the high school to the middle school auditorium after Town Manager Nan Balmer warned that a Wayland Sings concert the same night would pull roughly 60 percent of K-12 parents into the same parking lot within half an hour of town meeting's start. Balmer pegged total special town meeting costs at about $11,800, including $6,500 for electronic voting, and said fiscal 2016 town meeting expenses are tracking $40,000 over the $90,000 budget. The board also voted to support amending the Minuteman regional agreement and to support Wayland's withdrawal from the district. Resident Paul Dale urged adoption of a resolution backing state bills H.2870 and H.2871 targeting Wayland's 74 known natural gas leaks, calling methane "more than 84 times worse than CO2."
