Wayland Select Board keeps 5 Concord Road library petition before attorney general
WAYLAND -- April 30, 2018, Wayland Select Board votes 4-1 to keep 5 Concord Road library petition before the attorney general. The board rejected public calls from Board of Public Works Chair Mike Lowry to withdraw the petition, which asks the state to clarify whether the Roby trust permits reuse of the existing library for a cultural center or community space if a new library is built. Town Counsel Carolyn Murray said she had never seen the AG's office reject such a petition outright. The board also unanimously appointed a seven-member town administrator screening committee, Steve Correia, Dave Gutschenritter, Doug Levine, Brian O'Herlihy, Mary Ann Peabody, Carol Plumb and Susan Pope, and approved a contract IT director arrangement with Mike McCann at $90 per hour for roughly 20 hours per week. Police Chief Patrick Swanick told the board the department's new outdoor firing range will sit behind the transfer station, just under 1,000 feet from the nearest home.
