Wayland Select Board re-elects chair, vice chair for second year
WAYLAND -- April 23, 2018, Wayland Select Board re-elects leadership and advances town administrator search. The board voted 5-0 on April 23 to return Chair Lee and Vice Chair Cherry to their posts for another year, citing continuity needs through the search for a successor to Town Administrator Nan Balmer and a Collins Center review of municipal governance. Members also voted 4-0 to sign a successor collective bargaining agreement with IAFF Local 1978 running July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020, and 4-0-1 to waive most building permit fees, capped at a $50 minimum, for the Affordable Housing Trust's project at 11 Hammond Road. Town Engineer Paul reported DEP appears willing to walk back a five-fold increase in asbestos soil sampling at River's Edge, and resident Sally Cartwright pressed the board to expedite demolition of the abandoned DPW building at 195 Main Street using the $330,000 appropriated in 2016. Seven candidates have applied to a screening committee that will be seated before a May 3 community forum.
