Wayland Select Board enters closed session on firefighters contract talks

WAYLAND — March 23, 2023 — Wayland Select Board meets briefly to discuss firefighters union bargaining strategy in closed session. The board voted 3-0 Thursday evening to enter executive session under M.G.L. Chapter 30A, Section 21(a)(3), to discuss strategy for collective bargaining with International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1978. Chair Cherry Carlson presided remotely alongside members David Watkins and Thomas J. Fay; Carol Martin and Adam Gutbezahl were absent. Carlson said open discussion "may have a detrimental effect on the litigating, negotiating, or bargaining position of the town." Town Manager Michael McCall, Assistant Town Manager John Bugbee and KP Law counsel Dave Jenkins joined the closed session. The board reconvened at 5:32 p.m. with no open-session business and adjourned 3-0.
