Wayland Select Board delays vote on EV-first vehicle policy
WAYLAND -- October 6, 2025, Wayland Select Board delays EV-first vehicle policy vote pending revisions. Sustainability Coordinator Olivia Blaney told the board the policy is the last of six requirements needed for Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources Climate Leader certification, which would unlock $150,000 in technical assistance and $1 million in decarbonization capital funding. The town has received $818,481 in green community grants since 2011. Of 14 light-duty vehicles in Wayland's fleet, three are already fully electric. Chair Carol B. Martin asked for edits narrowing references from "all vehicles" to light-duty under 8,500 pounds, and the board deferred action until liaison William Whitney, absent Monday, could participate. Town Manager Michael McCall endorsed the direction, saying it aligns with the town's Climate Action and Mitigation Plan and state 2050 carbon-neutrality goals. The board also confirmed Brian Bosier to the 212 Cochituate Road Advisory Committee and set Dec. 11 as the target date for a special election on a debt exclusion.
