Wayland keeps top Aaa bond rating from Moody's
The Town of Wayland announced Oct. 15 that Moody's Investor Service reaffirmed the town's Aaa bond rating, the highest a municipality can receive, after assigning it Oct. 14 to a $14.9 million bond issue.
The Town of Wayland announced Oct. 15 that Moody's Investor Service has reaffirmed the town's Aaa rating, the highest rating a municipality can attain.
On Oct. 14, Moody's assigned the Aaa rating to the town's $14.9 million General Obligation Municipal Purpose Loan of 2026 Bonds. According to the rating report, the assessment reflects Wayland's stable tax base, supported by high resident wealth and incomes. Resident incomes in 2024 represented 256% of the U.S. median, and full value per capita exceeded $400,000. Moody's also noted that the town continues to aggressively fund its unfunded OPEB liability (other post-employment benefits), and that the debt burden is expected to remain manageable given limited new planned issuance.
Town Manager Michael McCall said in a statement, "Maintaining our Aaa bond rating is a testament to the Town's strong financial management and responsible budgeting. Through the implementation of financial policies, the Town has strengthened our best practices and long-term fiscal stability." McCall thanked Finance Director Brian Keveny, town staff and the Select Board for their efforts to maintain the rating.
