Wayland housing trust authorizes chair to sign Hammond Road purchase deal

WAYLAND — July 8, 2025 — Wayland housing trust clears chair to sign Habitat purchase deal for Hammond Road. The Municipal Affordable Housing Trust voted 4-0 on July 8 to authorize Chair Michael Staiti to execute the purchase-and-sale agreement and related documents for 11 and 12 Hammond Road, where the trust is selling land to Habitat for Humanity for one dollar. Staiti said closing would follow at least 30 days after signing, pending Zoning Board of Appeals approval of an amended site plan in August or September. The board tabled a $12,870 reimbursement request from the Wayland Housing Authority covering a $3,558 rent loss, roughly $6,000 in water bills, and $17,000 in turnover costs at the 11 Hammond Road rental, now leasing at $2,823 a month. "It's more money we have to put towards the trust mission," Staiti said, questioning whether the trust should absorb the full deficit under its 75/25 triple-net lease. Member Mary M. Antes flagged that the unit's street is Hammond Road, not "Hammond Way" as some draft documents read.
