Wayland Historical Commission to push Eversource on burying transmission lines

WAYLAND — May 8, 2023 — Wayland Historical Commission will ask Eversource to study burying transmission lines instead of installing new monopoles. Commissioner R. Richard Conard, citing Wayland Town Crier articles from 1951 and 1952 documenting the town's failed Supreme Judicial Court fight against the original Boston Edison line, said the replacement project is "potentially very significant" and could be an opportunity to remove a tower sitting inside the historic railroad turntable pit. No Eversource representative attended; Chair Bradford Carver said Commissioner Amanda Ciaccio will try to secure one for June. The commission also unanimously endorsed the concept of a memorial to 13 named enslaved people identified by historian Jane Sciacca, weighing $250 engraved "Stumbling Stones" against a $10,000-to-$12,000 Witness Stones program, and authorized Ciaccio to reclaim the long-orphaned high school history award.
