Wayland FinCom finalizes budget pitch ahead of Select Board meeting
WAYLAND -- April 24, 2024, Wayland Finance Committee readies override warning for Monday Select Board presentation. Meeting April 24, the committee finalized a 13-slide deck on the fiscal 2025 omnibus budget and agreed to push for a separate strategic session on a possible Proposition 2½ operating override in fiscal 2026 or 2027. Member Brian O'Herlihy warned that "healthcare alone could cause us to breach the levy capacity in fiscal 26" and pressed for immediate pro-forma modeling rather than waiting for an August financial summit. Two independent analyses put the schools' share of the operating budget at 69 percent and the town's at 31 percent. Members flagged a $47.4 million five-year capital plan against roughly $86.5 million in department requests, and circulated a late-arriving $526,000 emergency wastewater repair request from DPW Director Tom Holder. The committee approved April 17 minutes 5-0 and adjourned 4-0.
