WAYLAND — April 24, 2024 — Wayland DPW raises transfer station sticker to $190 and approves summer water authorities. The Board of Public Works voted unanimously Wednesday to lift the annual permit fee from $165, push five-packs of large trash bags from $12.50 to $15 and small packs from $7.50 to $9, and add a $10 credit card surcharge on sticker sales — moves aimed at closing a projected $151,000 enterprise fund shortfall as the Finance Committee signals it wants to end a $75,000 general fund subsidy. Board member Mike Wegerbauer resisted steeper hikes, saying he did not want to be "purposefully pushing people away" from the facility. The board also voted 5-0 to authorize streamflow-triggered outdoor watering restrictions for a minimum six-week duration, and 4-0 to empower staff to declare a Chapter 190 conservation emergency, with Baldwin Pond running at half capacity and Eversource unable to commit to delivering three transformers needed for the MWRA emergency connection first requested in September 2023.
