Wayland Finance Committee re-votes two town meeting articles after language revisions

WAYLAND — February 27, 2025 — Wayland Finance Committee re-votes two warrant articles and braces for a likely fiscal 2027 override. At a Feb. 27 meeting, members re-recommended Article X after the Select Board, 5-0, restricted its revenue source to free cash, and re-recommended Article U establishing a Capital Improvement Planning Committee. Chair Brian O'Hurley abstained on both, citing unaddressed clarity concerns, and warned that a forecasting model now shows a fiscal 2027 gap of roughly $750,000 to $1.5 million, partly driven by $200,000 to $300,000 in added debt service from a fall borrowing 30 percent larger than planned. O'Hurley also disclosed a discrepancy over Article CC — a non-binding resolution on an indoor sports facility at 195 Main Street — where he recorded a 2-1-2 vote as a recommendation while the town manager's tally listed it as not recommended. He threatened to withhold his name from the committee's warrant report unless a clean draft arrived by noon Friday: "I have the right not to put my name on it."
