Wayland Finance Committee may reconvene to revote $65,000 school revenue gap

WAYLAND -- March 25, 2024, Wayland Finance Committee may reconvene Monday to plug a $65,000 school revenue hole. Chair Pam Roman told members at the March 25 meeting that an anticipated Children's Way transfer built into the fiscal 2025 school budget at $143,764 will come in at roughly $78,000 because of lower enrollment, leaving a $65,000 gap that town counsel is reviewing. If prior-year food-service balances cannot legally be applied, the committee will have to revote the article's revenue sources and shift the difference onto the tax levy. Members also voided two motions taken later in the meeting, approving the draft Finance Committee report and naming Roman as sole chair, after member Steve Correa raised a point of order that neither item appeared on the agenda. "It was ineffective vote because it's not something we could vote on because it's not on the agenda," Correa said. Both will be retaken Monday.
