Wayland Finance Committee endorses Gilbert for another senior tax relief term

WAYLAND — June 2, 2025 — Wayland Finance Committee unanimously recommends Ann Gilbert for another term on Senior Tax Relief Committee. The 4-0 roll-call vote, taken before member Iris Acosta joined by Zoom, sends Gilbert's name to the Select Board for a three-year term ending June 30, 2028; she has served at least 12 years. Gilbert said fewer than 100 residents use the town's circuit-breaker match because "Wayland's real estate values are a lot higher" than the state program assumes, and described a local-option idea from Carol Martin that would give seniors a flat dollar credit rather than a percentage discount. The committee also agreed to use a recent 16-town Sudbury benchmarking report as a starting point for revisiting its peer-community list, and set a June 23 meeting with DPW Director Tom Holder on the MWRA hookup, with a possible June 30 joint meeting with the Select Board and Board of Public Works on whether to shift project debt service from water rates to the tax levy. Philip Tibisi takes over as chair July 1, with Carl Barnes as vice chair.
