Wayland Finance Committee defers vote on $32.7 million five-year capital plan

WAYLAND — December 7, 2022 — Wayland Finance Committee delays vote on $32.7 million five-year capital plan. Finance Director Brian Keveny presented the fiscal 2024-28 proposal Dec. 7 but the committee held the vote for a Dec. 19 meeting with full attendance. Keveny said the plan defers most facilities and school construction one year to let staff close out a backlog of 128 open projects totaling $35.7 million in unspent appropriations. Excluded from the plan: a possible $17 million to $20 million MWRA connection, a $1 million MSBA feasibility study running as a separate article, $755,000 in new school requests, and Snake Brook Dam repairs now estimated at $1.6 million with two grant applications pending. The committee voted 5-0 to approve Nov. 14 minutes. Keveny warned operating-budget modeling still points to a possible override by fiscal 2026 or 2027.
