Wayland CPC recommends $296,000 for pool rehabilitation in third vote

WAYLAND — March 14, 2024 — Wayland's Community Preservation Committee recommends up to $296,000 for pool rehabilitation in a third, roll-call vote. The 7-1 recommendation to annual town meeting covers design and qualifying facilities but deducts $75,000 tied to the inflatable bubble and scaffolding; member Sherry voted no and asked that her objection be formally recorded after an earlier defective vote. The committee warned the reimbursement is contingent on the pool holding a valid operating license, citing a 1998 bylaw that allows the town to withhold permits over unpaid municipal charges — the operator still owes roughly $8,000 on a disputed water bill, and its permit expires June 30. Members also approved up to $4,750 from the administrative fund to appraise a wetland parcel on Four Bennett Road containing two cold-water streams, and added $12,000 to close a shortfall on the $48,000 demolition at 27 Sherman Bridge Road, where neighbors raised about $36,000. "If they don't have authority to operate, then we won't give them the money," the chair said.
