Wayland CPC approves $705,000 in projects, rejects $2.6 million in larger requests

WAYLAND -- December 19, 2024, Wayland CPC advances roughly $705,000 in CPA projects and rejects $2.6 million in larger asks. Chaired by Susan Weinstein, the committee on Dec. 19 unanimously backed the Historical Commission's top priorities, $53,103 for rail rest posts, $75,000 for valuation records, and $5,800 for the Boston Post Cane, and added $85,000 to finish the Stonesbridge restoration, including a $5,000 interpretive sign pushed by member Mike Lowry, who said the existing marker fails to explain Henry Knox's role. The committee declined a $1.4 million Snake Brook Dam rehabilitation request, with Lowry calling it "a town's obligation, not ours" after Select Board liaison Carol Martin noted roughly $1.5 million in prior town appropriations. A $1 million Cochituate Park playground replacement was rejected, while $400,000 was approved for the Children's Way Playground. The committee also declined a $175,479 Wayland High School challenge course on an 8-1 vote and approved $33,200 for the York Road Trail.
