Select Board finalizes warrant edits, adds $526,000 wastewater fix
WAYLAND -- May 6, 2024, Wayland Select Board edits annual town meeting warrant and adds $526,000 wastewater fix. The board walked page-by-page through the warrant with Moderator Miranda Jones on May 6, raising the Article 10 capital budget from roughly $7.6 million to $8,174,447 to fund repairs to aging pre-treatment screens and an air diffuser at the wastewater facility. Town Manager Michael McCall said the equipment is about 12 years old and will be funded by wastewater debt, introduced as a handout rather than a formal errata. The board split over expanding use of electronic message boards beyond emergencies; Vice-Chair Doug Levine warned that overuse would dull their impact, while member William Whitney pushed for broader notice of elections. The board approved April 29 minutes 4-0-1 and adjourned 5-0 at 9:20 p.m. ahead of the May 13 town meeting.
