Wayland Planning Board continues two site plans, marks up new ADU bylaw
WAYLAND — October 8, 2024 — Wayland Planning Board defers two site plans and drafts ADU rewrite for spring town meeting. The board voted 5-0 twice on Oct. 8 to continue site plan hearings for the Islamic Center of Boston at 129 Boston Post Road and Veritas Christian Academy at 162-172 Cochituate Road to Oct. 22, with statutory decision deadlines of Nov. 5 and Nov. 19. Acting Chair Jennifer Steele led a section-by-section markup of an accessory dwelling unit bylaw needed to comply with a new state law making ADUs allowed by right, including a 30-day minimum rental term to block Airbnbs. Chair Anette S. Lewis warned that without deed restrictions, new ADUs count against the town's 10 percent affordable housing inventory without earning credit. Town Planner Robert Hummel also previewed an Economic Development Committee drive-up window proposal modeled on Chipotle locations in Marlborough and Medfield. Bylaw articles must be filed by Jan. 15.
