Wayland ZBA continues Training Field accessory dwelling case to January

WAYLAND — December 13, 2022 — Wayland ZBA delays ruling on finished in-law apartment built without zoning approval. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to continue case 22-29 to Jan. 10 after Ryan McDonald of Hawthorne Builders disclosed that a kitchen-and-bath apartment above the garage at 19 Training Field Road was completed without the required amended permit; member Thomas William White said the board lacks "statutory power to waive" the bylaw's two-year-existence requirement for accessory dwelling units in section 901. Homeowner Diane Saul, who plans to move her ailing mother into the space, told the board "delay isn't abstract for us." Earlier, the board unanimously approved a roughly 60 percent gross-floor-area expansion at 42 River View Circle for applicant Dennis Vovnov, deed-restricted to two bedrooms. Forge's Dylan DeFlorio also previewed a renovation of all 12 former Nike-site ranches off Loker Way, adding under 400 square feet per home within the existing envelope.
