Wayland Cultural Council commits $1,000 to two more utility-box murals

WAYLAND — December 13, 2022 — Wayland Cultural Council commits $1,000 to two more utility-box murals and chases outside money for a third. Members voted unanimously Dec. 13 to pay artists $500 apiece for two boxes under this year's "nature and community" theme, with Chair Rachel Seidman-Kertz and member Jane Kerser planning a March 1 application to the Lauren Dunne Ashley Memorial Fund to underwrite a third. The council also approved up to $100 to print large-format displays publicizing its 14 grant recipients on town bulletin boards, and unanimously endorsed a Community Preservation Committee application from Bill Sterling for display cases and a riverside trail at the planned community center. Seidman-Kertz said one grantee reimbursement filed in June remained unpaid; liaison Gelmi reported that 54 percent of Massachusetts cultural councils now issue direct grants rather than reimbursements.
