Wayland ZBA co-sponsors Route 20 pickup-window overlay district
WAYLAND -- February 11, 2025, Wayland ZBA signs on to Route 20 pickup-window overlay to fill empty banks. The Zoning Board of Appeals voted 4-0 Tuesday to co-sponsor a proposed overlay district along a narrow stretch of Route 20 that would permit pre-order pickup windows at fast-casual restaurants and coffee shops, capped at three locations spaced at least 300 feet apart. Economic Development Committee Chair Rebecca Stavizzi said December polling found 99 percent of residents were concerned about empty storefronts and 86 percent supported pickup windows for fast-casual uses, calling the article an interim step ahead of a broader Route 20 master plan. The board also approved a special permit for a Jersey Mike's Subs at 44 Main Street with a 40.27-square-foot wall sign, conditioned on Design Review Advisory Board sign-off, and continued garage and basement-finish cases to March 11. A Planning Board hearing on the overlay is set for Feb. 18.
