Wayland weighs $126,550 plan for multi-venue spring town meeting
WAYLAND -- January 29, 2018, Wayland Select Board reviews $126,550 plan for two-venue spring town meeting. John Senchenson told the board the field house would seat about 1,425 voters under an expanded layout, with another 600 in the high school auditorium as a satellite venue connected by encrypted cable for electronic voting, a setup he called "somewhat of an insurance policy" against turnout swamping a meeting weighing roughly $38 million in capital projects. Finance staff estimated a current-year transfer of at least $60,000 would be required; last spring's meeting cost about $38,000 and drew 800 voters. The board separately voted 5-0 to place Lavin's Liquors on a one-year probation after a Dec. 21 compliance check in which an underage agent bought a 12-pack for $17 without being carded, and 5-0 to insert warrant articles rescinding $2.2 million in authorized but unissued debt and closing a non-insurance stabilization fund holding roughly $1.2 million.
