Wayland wastewater commission expands sewer capacity by 10,000 gallons

WAYLAND — November 16, 2022 — Wayland sewer commission unanimously frees 10,000 gallons of capacity for new commercial hookups. The Wastewater Management District Commission voted 3-0 on Nov. 16 to raise allocated Title 5 design flow to roughly 124,000 gallons per day, with two property owners already lined up to close in December, according to Wastewater Administrator Sarah Pawluczonek. Chair Michael Gitten, joined by Doug Levine and Darrin Bock, paired the move with a planned "privilege fee" of about $22.03 per gallon projected to raise $220,000 over three years for small capital work. DPW Director Thomas Holder said the plant, now permitted for 89,000 gallons after Alta River's Edge added a leaching field, would operate "much more content doing 70" — likening it to his Kawasaki Vulcan. Operations Manager Pez resigned effective Dec. 2.
