CMG opens 30-day comment period on senior center site cleanup plan

WAYLAND — November 17, 2022 — Wayland consultant lays out soil-handling plan for Council on Aging site on former Raytheon land. CMG's licensed site professional presented a draft Release Abatement Measure plan Thursday for the roughly four-acre municipal parcel the town acquired in May, opening a public comment period through Dec. 18. The parcel sits within a 1997 deed restriction tied to Raytheon tracking number 3-13302 that bars recreation, child care and public access without sign-off from Environmental Resources Management's John Dubinsky, the only licensed site professional empowered to modify it. CMG reported PCBs in 2015 at under a quarter of the 1 part-per-million reportable limit, a 2017 grid study of 60 composite samples from 1,692 possible squares found no discrete result above 1 ppm, and 2022 PFAS testing detected only PFOS at under 1 nanogram per kilogram against a 2-ng/kg standard. "We conclude no significant risk for any reasonably foreseeable use of the property," the consultant said. A vapor barrier will still be installed beneath the building.
