Wayland Select Board weighs $1.5 million purchase of 14 West Plain St.

WAYLAND — June 12, 2025 — Wayland Select Board weighs $1.5 million purchase of Cochituate office building. The board on Thursday opened discussion of acquiring 14 West Plain Street, a 5,300-square-foot, two-story building with 23 parking spaces abutting the Cochituate ball fields, and directed Town Manager Michael McCall to contact the seller. Vice-Chair Doug Levine, who raised the issue after being approached by Economic Development Committee Chair Becky Stinezzi, said a building of that size at that price "does not come on the market in Wayland very often." Members floated uses including school administration offices, the Recreation Department, a library children's annex, the Children's Way preschool, and a group home. McCall said school offices alone need roughly 7,000 square feet and that the property likely qualifies as "unique" under Chapter 30B, avoiding competitive bidding. Chair Carol B. Martin said a public-input session could be scheduled as soon as June 30; any purchase would require a town meeting vote.
