WAYLAND -- April 8, 2019, Wayland Select Board signs town meeting warrant and braces for handset, clerk and budget headaches. The board voted 4-0 Monday to sign the warrant for the April 29 annual town meeting and approved a debt exclusion explainer letter for publication. Moderator Dennis Berry and ELVIS committee member David Bernstein walked the board through new procedures with vendor OTI after last spring's library vote left roughly 17 ballots in an unresolved state; voting windows will now expand to 45 or 60 seconds for crowds above 800. Assistant Town Administrator Beth Doucette said less than $50,000 remains against an estimated $118,000 three-day cost, with handsets alone topping $76,000. Town Administrator Louise Miller reported Moody's has removed its negative outlook on the town's bond rating. Member Cherry Karlson called the write-in town clerk election "no way to select someone for a position that has a certain set of qualifications."
