Wayland Select Board penalizes three liquor licensees for sales to minors
WAYLAND -- August 6, 2018, Wayland Select Board penalizes three establishments for selling alcohol to minors. The board voted 4-0 on each penalty after Police Chief Patrick Swanick reported July 9 compliance-check failures at China Rose, Wayland Variety & Deli, and the Wayland Country Club. China Rose, cited for a 2014 paperwork violation, drew a one-day suspension on Sunday, Aug. 12, plus one-year probation; owner Jeff May said his staff's TIPS certifications had all expired and apologized "sincerely" for the lapse. Wayland Variety & Deli, which had a two-day suspension in 2012, received two days, Aug. 12 and Aug. 19, and one-year probation, half the four days Swanick recommended. The Wayland Country Club, with no prior violations, received one-year probation only. The board also signed a contract with new Town Administrator Louise Miller and voted to open a Nov. 13 special town meeting warrant from Aug. 22 to Aug. 30.
