Wayland Select Board orders appraisal of Rod and Gun Club parcel
WAYLAND -- July 29, 2019, Wayland orders an appraisal on a half-acre Rod and Gun Club parcel as cell tower siting forces a Chapter 61B decision. The Select Board voted 5-0 Monday to begin the appraisal, estimated at $2,000 to $5,000, but deferred any vote on exercising the town's right of first refusal until a public hearing on or before Aug. 12. Town Administrator Louise Miller told the board that federal law and recent rulings against Peabody leave little ground to block Verizon Wireless, which received a ZBA permit July 23 citing a coverage gap. "I just don't think that there is a win here for the Board of Selectmen," Chair Cherry Carlson said. The town receives roughly $40,000 a year from its existing Reeves Hill tower. The board also swore in new Fire Chief Neil McPherson, approved a 5-0 change of manager for the Coach Grill at 55 Boston Post Road, appointed Andrew Stenari to the Permanent Municipal Building Committee, and authorized a three-year contract with Hilltop Securities, whose managing director Peter Frazier projected about $847,000 in savings from refinancing 2009 and 2010 bonds.
