Wayland Select Board delays response to $750,000 Finance Committee cut request
WAYLAND -- January 22, 2020, Wayland Select Board delays response to Finance Committee's $750,000 budget-cut demand. At the Jan. 22 meeting, the board declined to endorse the cuts immediately and will reconvene Monday at 6:30 p.m. to review a draft memo before the Finance Committee meets that night. The town administrator said FY21 town departmental budgets are rising $1.15 million, or 6.26 percent, including $200,000 in new positions, a $75,000 firefighter, a $45,500 school nurse, $13,000 in Council on Aging hours, $7,400 in Conservation hours, a $7,500 summer clerk and $51,375 for the Wayland Cares substance-abuse position whose grant is expiring. She identified only about $60,000 in additional reductions and warned against cutting the $300,000 capital stabilization contribution, citing a Moody's call that morning. "I don't think we can do without those two positions," she said of the facilities manager and full-time school nurse. The board adjourned 4-0 at 10:13 p.m.
