Wayland Select Board backs September target for delayed Town Meeting

WAYLAND -- May 27, 2020, Wayland Select Board signals September target for delayed Town Meeting. Town Moderator Dennis Berry told the board Wednesday he will keep postponing the meeting on 30-day declarations under Chapter 30A, saying town meeting is unlike reopening retail because "you can't choose town meeting." Member Tom Fay floated two consecutive September weekends, indoor or outdoor, and the board informally agreed; no vote was taken. The delay means Wayland will file 1/12 spending plans with the state Department of Revenue for July, August and September. Finance Director Brian Keveney projected a Fiscal 2020 revenue shortfall of roughly $375,000 against about $2 million in expense turnbacks, leaving a $200,000 cushion. The board voted 5-0 to approve May 15 minutes and 5-0 to release redacted executive session minutes from three dates, and accepted just over $4,000 in donations and a Fidelity Charitable grant for the town's COVID-19 relief fund.
