Wayland Select Board authorizes intervention over staff complaints against appointed official
WAYLAND -- January 3, 2023, Wayland Select Board acts informally on stalled staff complaints against an appointed official. Chair Cherry Carlson and members Adam Gutbezahl, Carol Martin and Dave Watkins agreed Tuesday to let acting Town Manager John Bugbee and member Mike Gillette speak directly with an appointed town official whose comments to two municipal employees had been documented but not addressed, while the board continues drafting a volunteer code of conduct. Gutbezahl said the board had "let those two people down" by prioritizing policy drafting over response. The board also continued to Jan. 9 a hearing on transferring an all-alcohol package store license at 302 Commonwealth Road to Bapa Wayland Corporation, and heard a pre-filing pitch from George Bachrach of SF Properties to rezone 193 Commonwealth Road for a net-zero self-storage building that he said would generate roughly $100,000 in annual tax revenue.
