Wayland Select Board approves 25-year solar deal, reallocates $120,000 ahead of Town Meeting

WAYLAND — March 31, 2025 — Wayland Select Board clears solar deal and frees $120,000 in town center gift funds. The board voted 4-0 Monday to authorize Town Manager Michael McCall to sign a 25-year power purchase agreement with Select Energy Development LLC for rooftop solar at the new Council on Aging and Community Center at 8 Andrew Avenue, projected to save about $57,600 over the term, after a planned parking-lot canopy was scrapped over weakened state incentives. In a separate unanimous vote, the board reallocated $120,000 in town center gift funds — previously understood as dedicated to a rail trail interpretive site and COA parking — to "general municipal purposes" after counsel found a second amendment to the original memorandum of agreement had already recharacterized them. The board also approved a change-of-LLC-manager amendment for the Coach Grille at 55 Boston Post Road and directed staff to draft a capital spending policy targeting 5 to 8 percent of the operating budget. Annual Town Meeting opens April 7 with 35 articles.
