Wayland Select Board advances seven warrant articles for May town meeting

WAYLAND -- January 6, 2025, Wayland Select Board advances seven warrant articles as firefighters decry dangerously low staffing. The board voted 5-0 on each to submit articles creating a new Capital Improvement Committee, pulling the Board of Assessors into a new Chapter 21, establishing an energy revolving fund, authorizing a $150,000 soil remediation at 195-207 Main St., approving a green burial at 56 Orchard Lane, and co-sponsoring a Home Rule petition to preserve the library's Millennium Fund with trustees Chair Aida Janis. Public comment was dominated by union vice president Jeff McLeod and Local 1978 President Taylor Ziegler-Miller, who said a recent mutual-aid call to Concord left only two firefighters in town. "You can't save anybody when there's two to three people in town," Ziegler-Miller said. Member Thomas J. Fay flagged that PFAS cleanup near the Happy Hollow wells could require a far larger future appropriation.
