Wayland Select Board advances $790,000 River's Edge asbestos article to fall town meeting
WAYLAND -- October 1, 2018, Wayland Select Board advances $790,000 River's Edge asbestos cleanup to special town meeting. Town Engineer Paul Brinkman told the board that DEP has agreed to a narrower excavation plan that digs two feet across most of the debris-spread area and deeper only where asbestos was previously confirmed, rather than removing roughly 2,000 cubic yards across the site. The borrowing article needs a two-thirds vote; Brinkman called the figure firm, saying "there's nothing that tells me I want to bring that down." Bill Sterling of Morse Road urged the board to "stay the course," citing a new Tighe & Bond report placing the slab 3.6 feet above the 100-year flood elevation. Town Administrator Louise Miller warned that Wood Partners, which extended its deadline to late February, is "getting concerned about how long this is taking." Members also voted 5-0 to issue the FY20 budget guideline and 4-0 to insert and support a $125,100 IT transfer and $5,527.12 in unpaid bills.
