Wayland School Committee accepts $45,000 state earmark for transition program van

WAYLAND — July 16, 2025 — Wayland School Committee accepts $45,000 Fair Share earmark to buy a special education van. Members voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the state funds, which Director of Student Services Ronnie Kessler will use to purchase a van — including signage and a lighting package — for the district's transition program serving students roughly 18 to 20, according to a memo from new Director of Finance Kirsteen Patterson. The earmark draws on surplus revenue from the constitutional amendment "earmarked for education and transportation." Members also reported the Select Board voted Monday to fund roughly $13,500, half the cost, of Yondr phone pouches for the middle school. The committee set Aug. 18 to close out the superintendent evaluation, with individual write-ups due July 31, and asked its policy subcommittee to return in mid-October with a plan to refresh the manual against MASC models.
