Wayland CPC reviews seven funding applications ahead of January deadline

WAYLAND — December 14, 2022 — Wayland CPC takes first look at seven FY24 applications, defers all decisions to January. The Community Preservation Committee, chaired by Susan Weinstein, reviewed roughly $700,000 in requests Dec. 14, including $150,000 to rebuild the Cochituate Ballpark basketball court for pickleball and possible outdoor ice skating, $200,000 to replace the Wayland Town Beach fence and gates, $260,000 to restore headstones at three cemeteries, and a library package to digitize the Town Crier microfilm and conserve an 1850 record book. Recreation Director Catherine Brenner said the existing beach fence is "broken" and easily cut; member Sherry Greenbaum called the price "a horrendous amount of money." Member Doug Stotz projected about $875,000 in uncommitted CPA funds available at town meeting. Preliminary recommendations are due Jan. 4; final warrant language Jan. 11.
