Wayland Housing Trust pivots to condo plan for 11 Hammond build
WAYLAND -- September 19, 2023, Wayland's Municipal Affordable Housing Trust pivots to a condo structure to revive its stalled 11 Hammond Road build. Chair Michael Staiti said the trust will issue a new RFP letting a developer such as Habitat for Humanity lease the pad site for 99 years at $1 or buy it outright for $1, bundled with already-awarded state HOME funds and a trust contribution. "Habitat wants to sell it when they're done," Staiti said. Attorney-member Laura Kaplan offered to draft condo documents pro bono with town counsel review. The trust voted 4-0 to authorize member Mary M. Antes to press Village Bank on why nearly $1 million in CDs generated only about $5,000 in interest, and approved its annual town report after revising language on an $11,036 accrued WHA payment in lieu of taxes. The trust also declined a $599,600 listing at 10 Pequod Road, and noted the ZBA has approved the Good Shepherd Parish affordable project with no appeal filed. Next meeting: Oct. 23.
