Wayland housing trust accepts $50,000 HOME grant for Hammond Road project

WAYLAND — December 6, 2022 — Wayland trust accepts $50,000 HOME grant and weighs $200,000 stake in church-land housing project. The Municipal Affordable Housing Trust voted 5-0 Tuesday to accept HOME Consortium funds for 11 Hammond Road despite a net-present-value analysis by Brian Hurley showing a $10,000 to $20,000 long-term cost from the grant's 65 percent area-median-income cap. Chair Michael Staiti said "we get $50,000 in cash up front" and serve a lower-income family. The trust also reallocated $3,500 and authorized up to roughly $4,000 more to hire outside help on the Hammond RFP, citing acting Town Manager John Bugbee's competing duties. Rachel Bratt of the Wayland Housing Partnership pitched a 40-to-45-unit affordable elderly housing development on Good Shepherd Parish land at St. Ann's, financed through federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, asking the town for a $100,000 to $200,000 commitment. Staiti was re-elected chair; Laura Kaplan was named vice chair and Mary M. Antes clerk.
