Wayland Housing Partnership plans fall ADU forum after Board of Health talks

WAYLAND — July 8, 2025 — Wayland Housing Partnership plans fall forum on accessory dwelling units after Board of Health talks. Chair Mary M. Antes said members Rachel Bratt and Kathleen Boundy will next seek a Planning Board slot to continue the outreach that began with a June 16 Board of Health meeting Bratt called "very positive." Boundy said health officials held that "bedrooms are bedrooms" for septic purposes regardless of use, but floated workarounds such as drywalling over closets. The board voted 5-0 to renominate Jacqueline Espirtusanto-Vega as its representative to the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust. Member Jean Milburn will ask the assessor's office to estimate how many Wayland single-family homes could accommodate an ADU. Bratt reported the 60-unit, 25-percent-affordable Cascade 40B project at the former Mahoney's site is still awaiting a state DEP ruling. The partnership adjourned at 8:11 p.m. and next meets Aug. 13.
