Wayland Finance Committee told fiscal 2024 capital plan ready after Thanksgiving

WAYLAND — November 14, 2022 — Wayland's fiscal 2024 capital budget on track for release around Thanksgiving, finance director says. Finance Director Brian Keveny told the Finance Committee Monday that his draft five-year plan, covering fiscal 2024 through 2028, was handed to Acting Town Manager John Bugbee that afternoon, with Chair Pam Roman and member Kelly slated to review it Friday. Keveny said the town has roughly 146 open capital projects plus 23 CIP projects totaling $35 million to $38 million, and that "safety related" items like school fireboxes will not be deferred. Of the town's $4.1 million ARPA award, $1.7 million has been allocated for an MWRA emergency connection, nursing wages and COVID ventilation; Select Board members Carol Martin and Tom Fay are vetting uses for the rest before a December 2024 obligation deadline. Motor vehicle excise came in about $400,000 light in fiscal 2022, Keveny said, while fiscal 2022 free cash was filed with the state five months ahead of last year. The committee approved its Oct. 26 minutes 5-0 and adjourned 6-0 at 7:58 p.m.
