Wayland Energy Committee drafts revolving fund article for town meeting

WAYLAND — November 12, 2024 — Wayland Energy Committee advances revolving fund article as Loker solar nears startup. Chair Ellen Tohn said the committee will brief the Select Board in December on a draft town meeting article, led by member Neil Gordon, that would funnel utility rebates, incentives and tax credits — more than $450,000 last year alone — into a dedicated fund for energy-efficiency and electrification projects. Sustainability Manager Abby Schute reported the Loker Elementary rooftop array is fully installed pending a rapid-shutdown test, and the Council on Aging community center is targeting early March for rooftop solar and April 1 for canopies. Only 130 of 4,188 Wayland electricity accounts have opted up to 100 percent green; member Bill Huss floated making it the default in two years, noting "we're introducing a solar facility on the shortest day of the year." Members voted 4-0 to approve October minutes, with Tom Sciacca abstaining.
