Wayland Energy Committee Plans October Heat Pump Mailer for All 4,800 Households

WAYLAND — July 21, 2026 — Wayland's Energy and Climate Committee set plans for an October heat pump mailer to all 4,800 town households and a September 23 community coaching event at the Council on Aging. Meeting remotely on July 21, the committee agreed that associate member Paul Dale and Chair Ellen R. Tohn will draft the mailer — to be sent through Peregrine Energy, the town's electricity aggregation provider, at no additional mailing cost — with content leading on air conditioning savings before addressing heating bill economics for oil, electric baseboard, and natural gas customers; a staff update confirmed the prior Peregrine mailing carried the town's return address, clearing a key credibility question. Tohn emailed Peregrine contact Marlena during the meeting to ask whether a differential three-letter mailing targeted by fuel type was feasible, calling it likely a no but worth asking. The September 23 event, informally branded "Have a Slice, Get Advice," will run 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Council on Aging and will be co-sponsored by Sudbury; Dale will deliver a 10-to-15-minute talk on utility rate structures and heat pump economics, with heat pump coaches and energy bill checkup coaches available for one-on-one conversation.
