Wayland Cultural Council faces $5,500 shortfall as 22 grant requests roll in
WAYLAND -- October 22, 2025, Wayland Cultural Council braces for "brutal" cuts as grant requests outpace funds by $5,500. Chair Pallavi Nagesha told members at the Oct. 22 meeting that 22 applicants are seeking roughly $14,985 against about $9,435 available to allocate, forcing the council to reject some applications outright for the first time in recent memory. Treasurer Naresh Mysore reported a $6,900 state allocation plus carry-over funds totaling $11,860, minus $345 reserved for administrative costs and $2,425 still tied up in unclaimed prior-year grants. Members voted unanimously to defer a decision on whether to withhold an additional $1,035 for a council-led project tied to Wayland's 2027 anniversary celebration. "We shouldn't withhold it if we say, well, we'll decide later what to do with it," Mysore said. Denial letters must be entered in the state portal by Dec. 31.
