Wayland boards jointly appoint Patrick Murphy to Public Works seat

WAYLAND -- November 4, 2019, Wayland fills two board vacancies and locks in $6.3 million in short-term borrowing. The Select Board and Board of Public Works voted 8-1 in a joint session Nov. 4 to appoint attorney Patrick Murphy to an open Public Works seat through April 2020, with Clifford Lewis the lone vote for candidate Bob Goldsworthy; Joe Markowitz was the third applicant. Select Board member Thomas J. Fay nominated Murphy, citing his legal, financial and environmental background as covering "so many topics that this board deals with." The boards then appointed Philip Parks to the Board of Assessors on an 8-0 vote. The Select Board separately approved a $6.3 million bond anticipation note for the high school athletic complex at 1.32 percent interest from TD Securities, the low bidder among seven, with $18,900 in premium. The board also spent over an hour with counsel reworking draft Town Manager Special Act language on department-head hiring authority.
